If you're planning to visit an orthodontist to get a consultation about Invisalign braces, you'll likely have several questions about what it will be like to use them. Here are 3 questions you may want to ask your orthodontist.

Do Invisible Braces Affect the Way You Speak?

Many people assume that wearing the clear trays for Invisalign braces can cause you to speak oddly during the treatment. That is simply not true. While it will not feel natural the very first time you put the clear alignment trays over your teeth, it is something that you quickly adjust to. You'll soon be speaking normally while wearing the trays, so do not worry about it impacting the way you talk. If you do happen to have problems speaking, your orthodontist might need to make adjustments to the trays. Thankfully, you get a new set of trays every two weeks.

Can the Plastic Trays Become Stained?

It is normal to have concerns about the look of the plastic alignment trays when they are in your mouth, including if they can become stained. The plastic trays are only in your mouth for a short period of time, so the chances of them becoming stained are very low. As long as you are taking your plastic trays out for eating and drinking, having stained alignment trays will not be a problem. If the trays do become stained, once again, know that they will be swapped out fairly soon and you'll have a fresh start.

Do Invisalign Braces Require a Lot of Care Each Day?

The one thing to know about Invisalign braces is that they do require more work than normal braces. They are not fixed to your teeth, and they must be removed for certain situations. That said, it is just an adjustment that you need to get used to. While the trays must be removed for brushing and eating, you can do all of those things normally. With regular metal braces, you need to carefully thread dental floss between the brackets, or be careful about the food that you eat. Those annoyances may outweigh having to remove invisible braces at certain times during the day.

Do you still have more questions about Invisalign braces and the benefits they offer? Meet with an orthodontist near you for more information. They'll perform an examination and let you know if you would be a good candidate.
